Q. Im planning on going into Landscaping. Im 21 years old, I have no experience in landscaping and currently applied to a position I felt intrested in. I like to move around constantly in a job. I want it to be physical, so I though landscaping was a good choice. Is it possible to move up in a lanscaping job? Any advice out there? Thanks!

A. You should look at taking a horticulture or landscape design program at a 2 year or community college. While you are doing this get a job with a landscape company, you will make your way up through the company but if you get a horticulture degree it will occur faster.

Q. Okay so this is what happen. Someone told me that if I throw soil on top of my grass that my grass will die and won't grow anymore. Well that didn't happen! My back yard is big! I did 40yrds worth of landscaping and now grass is growing thru all my landscaping! How can I get rid of the grass underneth my landscaping w/ out digging up all my plants and garden soil? A. You appear to have dropped a rather large goolie. The grass should have been killed first. Do not listen to amatuers, get some gardening books pronto!!!!!!!!!!

It is amazing how inaccurate the responses people provide: re: pondlady you only need a minimum of an Associates degree in Landscape Architecture to qualify for the educational requirements to take the LARE. re: Christy If what she says is true about competition, all registered landscape architects who owns their own installation company will be out of business. It does happen in the industry, but whether you are a licensed landscape architect or not should not factor in how the installation business runs or profits. Review the requirements for licensure from this website: http://www.latc.ca.gov/ Since you said your boyfriend already have a landscaping business, he should have his business license in place already. You can always make your company name change if you so desired at your State's Corporation Commission.

A. Well most landscaping companies have a tough time getting good reliable help as summer gets going and more people begin to think about how bad their yard or business' landscaping looks. Naturally you shouldnt be discriminated against because you're a girl BUT we all know it happens. Try this: Check the Yellow Pages under landscapers and look to see if any of them have a females name as an owner! You may even have an advantage here over the boys since she will know how hard it is for women to get into the field. Some companies use more minority-owned businesses so a savvy business woman will be sure her name is listed. Good Luck!

The falling rubble is destroying my landscaping -it's a foot deep on my property, stretching 20 feet from the house next door onto my property. What, if anything, are professional roofers supposed to be doing to protect other peoples' property from damage? I've lost a whole garden so far.

A. They should have placed plywood shields over landscaping to protect it.

I do all of my own landscaping and mantaining on my own lawn,yard.It will cost you thousands if yiou plan on getting everything done the first year.Iplanted just a few plants at a time and put them where I knew I wanted to have my gardens.And after 3 years my yard is the nicest in the neighborhood.Also I do not plant annuals in my gardens at all because you will just be replanting next year anyways.It will cost you more at first but, the amount of work will be less.So buy perennials only.Good Luck!
